Overview
Kibale Forets National park is very famous for chimpanzee tracking safari, birding and other primates in Uganda’s rainforests. This wildlife national park averages about 3,300 feet in elevation, is an extension of the great rain forests of central Africa. It is inhabited by three large “communities” of chimps, each numbering more than 100 individuals. Each community has a complicated social structure. The big adult males dominate the group and defend the community territory against incursions by male outsiders; the females usually wander in small family groups.
Typically on a Chimpanzee Tracking Safari, we locate the chimps by listening for their pant-hooting calls, then hustle to the area from which they are calling. We get to observe them as they feed in fruiting trees, lounge, and socialize with each other, or even, occasionally hunt.
Itinerary
Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by a Image Travel representative and together you will embark on the drive to Kibale Forest with lunch en route. Dinner and overnight at Primate Lodge Kibale– luxury cottage.Meal Plan:Lunch and Dinner.
Kibale National Park is an extensive Biodiversity national park in South Uganda– Kibale National Forest has one of the greatest variety and concentration of primates in Africa including our famous cousin, the Chimpanzee, the red colobus, vervet, L’Hoest’s, blac-and- white colobus and the olive baboon. Not forgetting the array of unique birds, forest elephants (smaller and hairier than the more familiar savannah elephant) and much more.
Today the forest opens its doors for a sensational chimpanzee tracking experience.After an early breakfast at the lodge, you will transfer to the tracking start point.
Following the pre-tracking briefing, you walk to the trailhead for the start of an unforgettable adventure – following in the footsteps of the habituated family of chimpanzees. En-route, your guide will enthral you with stories and facts about the forest and her other inhabitants including other primates and birds – like the Black & White (Guereza) Colobus and Red tailed Monkeys, Olive Baboon a number of bird species.
You will spend an unforgettable hour with the chimpanzees watching them as they eat, groom, play, taking care of their young, and go through their daily routine in their natural habitat.
Return back to the lodge for lunch then in the afternoon enjoy a guided nature walk through the Bigodi wetland. Bigodi Swamp Walk is an initiative of the local community and is known for its rich diversity of birds and primates. The path and board walk maybe flooded and muddy after heavy rainfall and gumboots are recommended. The walk is about 4km in length taking 3-4 hours at birding pace with local community guides. All proceeds from eco- tourism go back to into the community, a conservation project well worth supporting. Later return to the lodge for dinner and overnight. Dinner and overnight at Primate Lodge Kibale- luxury cottage.
Today you will drive back to Entebbe and prepare to bid farewell to beautiful Uganda, enriched with an unforgettable experience. You will have lunch en-route at a local restaurant. Meal Plan:Breakfast & Lunch.
